Who do we work with?

Our Community Partners

Volunteering

Our community is made up of Volunteers of all ages - seniors, older adults, adults, children and youth..

Active seniors, older adults and adults who volunteer with
    children in the community as Reading Partners and ESL
    tutors, classroom assistants and internet coaches.

Children and youth who volunteer with the frail elderly in long-
    term care facilities and other community agencies/
    organizations that provide services for seniors.

Volunteer Application Process:

Consists of an interview and completion of application form including the signing of a mandatory Police Check Waiver for those volunteering in the school system.

This process can take up to 6 weeks.
Training is mandatory and takes place twice a year.

What is TIGP?

TIGP is:
Not-for-profit charitable organization incorporated in 1986
The major advocate and developer of intergenerational
    programs in the City of Toronto.
Funded by all levels of government; federal, provincial and
    municipal as well as private foundations and individual
    donors.

Partners

Their commonality is that they all believe in the intrinsic value of intergenerational contact and the benefits of partnering and volunteering in mutual support of each other.

An intergenerational program is a planned, intentional interaction of different age groups, infant to elderly, in a variety of situations at a level that provides close communication, sharing of feelings and ideas and cooperative activity in meaningful tasks.” (Peacock & Talley, 1984)

Program Scope:

Toronto Intergenerational Partnerships works with community partners; schools, agencies, institutions and seniors groups recruiting, training and supporting volunteers of all ages in the coordination and delivery of intergenerational programs and activities such as:

Friendly visiting with the frail elderly
Reading partner and literacy
Storytelling – Elder Tales
Seniors Home Maintenance (Brokered Program)
Seniors in Cyberspace
Health and wellness

Partner Support: collaborative program design, development
    and delivery training for community partners.

Toronto Intergenerational Partnerships

Collaborates with community agencies/organizations and
    communities of interest in the development of ongoing
    intergenerational programs, activities and special events that
    involve people of all ages, seniors, youth and children.
Provides intergenerational activity and program models,
    resources, training and expertise to volunteers, schools,
    community agencies and institutions and other interested
    organizations.
Provides access and introductions for community partners
    and volunteers to schools in their area.

Who do we work with?

We work with who we serve, in partnership with individuals, volunteers, organizations and groups in the community in the development and delivery of programs and activities that engage, mobilize and support seniors, children and youth together. We work with:
