This web site supports “Seniors in Cyberspace”, an intergenerational program enlisting and training youth volunteers and long-term care staff or other community groups, to assist and support the frail elderly in nursing homes in the use of computers in accessing the internet.

This program will address the need for self-directed, stimulating activities for the frail elderly in long-term care facilities.

There is an identified need for self-directed choices through activities that provide mental stimulation for the isolated elderly living in long-term care facilities. They are among the most vulnerable population of our society. It is certain that our frail elderly are a growing number of the “technology have-nots”.

The frail elderly are deemed to require special support to use computers and the internet, because their issues of access, particularly with respect to “techno-fear” are complicated by ill health, physical limitations and the need for special adaptations.

This web site will provide community partners with essential information and resources to implement a “Seniors in Cyberspace” program in their community. Volunteers possessing computer knowledge and skills can access this web site to gain coaching techniques including sensitivity to aging, which will enable them to become an effective Intergenerational Internet Coach.

We invite you to explore our site, the testimonials, program models, supports and guidelines to establish your own “Seniors in Cyberspace” program. Program outcomes from our ten core Toronto based sites will be shared on this web site by accessing our Discussion Forum.
