When the concept of a Seniors in Cyberspace program was introduced to staff at long-term care facilities there an overwhelming positive response to participating. Staff recognized the value of bringing generations together to introduce computer and internet technology and how this program would be of benefit to their residents.

Seneca College, Gerontology Department and TIGP provided an orientation for long-term care staff where three training modules were reviewed. The orientation and training module resources are contained on this sites to assist facilities with program development and volunteer support.

Once computers were obtained and the internet connections made, staff and volunteers activated the program.

Emily Lawford, Program Manager at the O’Neill Centre feels that “every resident who has been involved in the program has had a great experience. Seniors have searched web sites relating to the province they are from, other topics of interest and played computer games. We look forward to developing the program further so that many more residents can have the opportunity to discover the Word Wide Web.”
