The "Seniors in Cyberspace" program provides opportunity and supports to frail elderly persons living in long-term care facilities to learn how to access computers and information technology (the internet). The seniors will be trained by youth Internet Coaches. (This position is also suitable for adult volunteers).

Applicants should possess the desire to work with the elderly and have skills, knowledge and sensitivity to be effective in assisting them to access technology. Program techniques and volunteer training is a prerequisite. Volunteers must review Training Modules One, Training Module Two and Training Module Three and adhere to the program Volunteer Guidelines.

Responsibilities of Internet Coaches:

to attend orientation sessions and complete training
    requirements

to spend time friendly visiting to get to know your partner
    before starting the program

to create an atmosphere of trust and caring that fosters
    development of mutual positive learning experiences

to identify learning adjustments required for the computer
    work station, such as screen size, font size, single mouse
    clicking and wheel chair accommodation.

to participate in pre and post program evaluations and
    activities as required.

to maintain regular contact and communication with their
    senior partner and staff.
